Appraisals and valuations
We are happy to accept entire collections, significant collection groups or individual works of art for sale by auction. Prior to the auction our experts will appraise the works, where necessary in consultation with the international art experts specialised in the object in question. We then value and describe the objects in accordance with international standards. At our clients’ request, we will organise the proper shipment of the items. We advise our customers in matters of taxation (VAT, inheritance tax, wealth tax, income tax, etc.), customs formalities, insurance, restoration, storage, inheritance administration, etc. Our experts recommend a catalogue estimate and a reserve price (the confidential minimum price below which no bid for an object will be accepted). The customer then receives a detailed auction contract complete with our terms and conditions of sale.
Promotion/advertising, preview and art auction
For promotion and advertising purposes we describe the objects according to international standards, and as a rule reproduce them in the auction catalogue. The printed catalogue and the catalogue on CD-Rom are sent to collectors, museum representatives, art experts and art dealers all over the world (more than 6,500 copies worldwide). We also post our catalogues on the internet, both as PDF catalogues and as a database. Customers who are registered with us are informed via the internet of any objects that we feel may be of interest to them, in accordance with the preferences they have indicated on our homepage. We actively inform art market journalists of our forthcoming auctions so they can regularly publish previews in the leading international journals and magazines. A key aspect of our sales success is the fact that we actively contact potential buyers in Switzerland and abroad to promote our sellers’ works of art. Our customer index contains the addresses of more than 25,000 art enthusiasts. We organise advance viewings in our own spacious and representative salesrooms to give national and international collectors, museum representatives, art experts and art dealers an opportunity to view the objects at length during the exhibition. More than 600 people a day seize this opportunity, literally turning the showrooms of Galerie Fischer into a European market place for art. We then accept bids from potential buyers which are made in person, in writing or over the phone. The art auction itself is held in accordance with international standards; the many bidders present then have the possibility of taking the art objects they have acquired away with them, there and then, once payment has been effected.
After the auction
The results of the auction are posted on the internet immediately afterwards. Once the buyer has fulfilled his obligations, the net proceeds due to the seller are transferred 35 days after the auction date. The seller also receives an itemised bill of the auction.
